Is there a way to allow a 1-day grace period for late assignments before the new gradebook starts making automatic deductions? Or would I have to manually adjust the due date to be 1 day later for this to be allowed?

Hi Keith,

As far as I can tell, there isn't really an option to *automatically* grant a 1-day grace period with the late policy settings.

However, if this is something that you only anticipate being applied to a few students, you can manually adjust the number of days "late" the submission is marked.  (The # of days can be manually adjusted in the Grade Detail Tray, as shown inhttps://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-16569-4152826329 ). You can leave the assignment marked "Late", but change the number of days from 1 to 0 if they submit during the grace period, and they won't have anything deducted from their grade.

This has the benefit of keeping the Due Date correct in the course calendar, to-do lists, etc., and still indicating to the student that they made a late submission, even if it was during the grace period and they aren't penalized.  Of course, for students who submit past the grade period, you'd need to decide whether you want to penalize them according to the late policy, or knock the "grace period" off (2 days late instead of 3, for instance) since the late penalty increases by the day.
