We are giving the Canvas Admins area a little bit of love (especially questions that are really, really old) and just want to check in with you. This will also bring this question new attention.

Although we have an internal portal website (separate from Canvas) for both students and staff to use (where the majority of announcements are posted/housed), we do use Global Announcements (How do I create a global announcement in an account?) in Canvas on occasion to communicate things campus wide. We've worked with a couple departments on campus where they've sent us the information to post, and we'll post it for them for the amount of time they want. We try not to fill the Global Announcements up too much with content, however, because the more announcements you add, the more people have to scroll on the Dashboard.
