Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
Is there a way of automatically locking a module? I know how to unlock a module at a certain day and time, is there a way of locking it back up at a later date automatically.
I have a faculty member that would like to unlock a group of assignments and discussion boards in "segments" throughout the semester and then automatically lock them back up at a designated time (without manually locking-since the deadline is 11:59 PM on a certain dates).
We are aware that each assignment, quiz, and discussion board can be set individually to be available from and to a certain date. We are looking for a way to do a group (module) so that he does not have to go into each item every semester and change.
Is there a script if this is not an option?
Appreciate any insight. Julie
@jcottin , no, there is no way to do this on the front end of Canvas, but @James has developed a way for faculty to be able to change all assignment dates on one page - https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/2214#comment-16943
Otherwise there is probably a way to do this programmatically from the back-end of Canvas, but that's not my area of expertise. I'm going to include the Canvas Developers group on this so they might be able to provide some input.
Thanks Kona Jones, after I posted this I remembered reading the link by James Jones. Thanks for mentioning in the Developers area!
@jcottin ,
We are giving the Instructional Designers area a little bit of love and just want to check in with you. This will also bring this question new attention.

Hi. Just searched this topic -- to see if I could set a module to close at a certain date. Any news on this? For now, I can make a note to unpublish the module manually when I want it to close, But would be really helpful to be able to set it.
Hi @ryanadi1 …
To my knowledge, this is not possible at the moment. However, I did a bit of searching for you, and I found the following Feature Idea that might be similar to what you are asking about:
Modules need a "Lock After" Feature
If you feel that this Feature Idea aligns with something you’d like to see added to Canvas, you can give it a star rating and also post a comment letting Instructure know why this would be important to you in Canvas.
Sorry this may not be the answer you were looking for, but hopefully it will help in some way.
