Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I scheduled an assignment due at 11:59 pm on a day, however my students see the time of the due date as 2:59 am of the next day. How can I fix this?
Solved! Go to Solution.
I realized what happened. I looked at setting under my name and the time zone was pacific time. I changed it and now I have to go back and change the time of due dates for all the assignments. The time zone under the course setting was correct, Eastern time. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi, @mbahadory Welcome to the Canvas Community! The first thing to check is that time zone set in the course is the same as the one where your students are interacting with Canvas, assuming they're not spread out among multiple time zones. So if, for example, the course time zone is set to Mountain Time while your students' accounts are all set to Eastern Time, that would account for this discrepancy. Please have a look through How do I set a time zone for a course?
The reverse might be true; perhaps the course time zone is accurate but students have adjusted their personal time zone settings? This is described in How do I set a time zone in my user account as a student?
If one of these doesn't resolve the issue, please come back and let us know so we can continue to help troubleshoot. Thanks, Maggie!
Thanks for your response. The time zone is correct. When I look at the assignment in Edit mode, I see this
@mbahadory , since the course time zone is set at 2:59 am, that's the time students will see ("local" is what you have set for yourself). Are you in a different time zone from your students?
No, I am at the same time zone as my students.

@mbahadory , I looked at your user and course time zone settings and both appear to be in order and consistent with one another. However, I took a peek at one of the assignments in one of your courses, and see that the due time on the assignment itself is set to 2:59 PM. If you'd like, you can send me a DM with a link to the specific assignment that is causing the issue so I can help sort it out.
