Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
In the current iteration of my Canvas course, announcements are suddenly single-spacing rather than double-spacing. To be more precise, they are dropping the blank line between paragraphs. I have to enter an extra return to create the proper space between paragraphs.
I am hitting 'enter,' not 'shift + enter,' after each paragraph in the rich content editor, so that's not causing the single-spacing.
How do I add and modify text in the Rich Content Editor as an instructor? does not seem to address this issue.
Ideas?
Thank you.

Hi @davidgs
I have had this happen, and it is usually because I pasted text from another document or website. I suspect you have some funky html coding happening in the background. I would first try to 'Remove Text Formatting'. Select all, then click the button that has a T and an eraser going across it. See this guide.

If that doesn't work, copy your text into a basic text editor such as Notepad, and then paste back into Canvas. That will remove any formatting being copied into the RCE.
If that fails, you can google strip html to find an online tool that will strip your text of any html code. One example, https://www.striphtml.com/

This happens by typing directly into the submission box, and none of these solutions work. I don't think I should have to learn htpl to post an announcement.
@drkeithcox ...
I agree that you shouldn't need to learn HTML to post announcements. And, in most cases, you don't need to learn code. I do agree with @gnoack that there may be some rogue HTML code that was pasted in from other documents that is causing the odd spacing as the original poster had described. A while back, I wrote a short blog post called HTML Cleanup that walks you through how to use an online website to clean up code. The nice thing about sites that help with this is that you don't really need to learn how to code...it's more of a replacement of code in your course with code that's been cleaned up to remove anything that seems out of place.
I hope this will be of some help to you. Sing out if you have any questions.
My point here is that this is not a problem with the text but with the editor. When you type into an empty editor window it formats the way I want it, but as soon as I publish it is single-spaced. Having another site fix the html fixes the problem with the text, but not the editor, I have been using Canvas for at least six years (I'm too old to remember when I started using something, or much of anything else for that matter), and I never had a problem with this until about two weeks ago.
