Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I am teaching using Canvas for the first time. I have added a number of announcements. They all defaulted to locked for comment. How do I open an announcement for comment? When I click on the settings icon to the right of an announcement, I only see a delete option.

Hi @lfreese
The global control for locking announcements for replies is found within your courses settings, not in the Announcement edit. it is actually the last option on the Settings page, and the default is to permit comments on Announcements, so I suspect you inadvertently clicked the check-box when first setting up the course. If you have disabled Comments in your course settings, you cannot enable it for individual announcements. However, if you have left comments enabled, then you can turn them off for selected announcements.

I hope this helps,

Kelley,
This was very helpful. Thank you.
This information does not seem to be accurate any more.
The solution directs to How do I disable announcement replies for an entir... which is current documentation; if you've discovered an inaccuracy in the lesson, you can use the feedback link at the bottom of the lesson page to note that. If your comment is specific to the solution, would you clarify what in the reply itself isn't accurate?
