Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I need to add a parent to observe her son's Canvas course. I thought I could just add her email address inside "people;" however, when I did this I receive "unable to find matches" messages. What am I missing? Once I get her signed in as an observer, how will she gain access to observe the course?

Hi @bludwig
Depending on your course setting (visibility) your added observers are likely getting that message because they do not yet have a user account in your Canvas instance.
Don't change your settings - talk with your school's Canvas Admin/Support folks first. They can enable the Observer functionality if it isn't already enable, they can then develop a process for adding observer-users, and there may be policies and procedures governing enrollments (even as an observer) at your school. And there will likely be policies around the "visibility" state of your courses in Canvas.
I know this isn't much help, but doing it right will work out better in the end.

Kelley,
I appreciate this suggestion. I'll definitely check into this option.
Hi @bludwig I wanted to take a moment and return to this thread. How are things going? Were you able to connect with your school's Canvas Admin or Support? If so, what did you learn?

Thank you for checking back. No, I was not able to find an answer to help but I was able to share some of the information with the teacher in another county.
I also have this issue. Frustrating. Would like this to be much easier than it is.
